Frequently asked questions

  • Who are Bakerwood?

Bakerwood is a “one stop shop” marquee and catering business. Originally established as a catering business in 1995, they soon established a reputation serving hot and cold meals in marquee venues to the private and corporate customer. Through time they realised the need for a quality marquee supplier and introduced marquees to their portfolio in 2006.

  • What’s different about a Bakerwood marquee structure?

Forget any preconceived ideas about how a marquee should look. At Bakerwood we always aim to provide something different to the norm. For starters, our distinctive bay window ends and high peak roofs all come as standard with as many windows as you want. Layouts are optimised to suit the site and blend with the surroundings. Our raised floors guarantee your marquee will not look crooked and sits level and prominently.

  • I would like a Bakerwood Marquee – is my site suitable?

Unlike many others, a Bakerwood marquee does not require a flat site. Due to our innovative flooring system our marquees can often be situated over varying ground types and accommodate moderate slopes. You will only know properly once we have visited your proposed site, in fact you may well be surprised to find a site that’s inconceivable to others.

  • How much is it all going to cost?

Until we know your exact requirements it’s often difficult to provide a price. Once we have surveyed your site and produced a layout proposal, we can then provide you with a comprehensive quotation and scale 2D drawings with projected views. Wherever possible we always encourage prospective clients to come and visit an existing marquee.

  • When do you erect the Marquee and how long does it take to build?

At Bakerwood we are not into “last minute”. We really want you to have a stress free time and enjoy the experience. Where conditions allow, we always aim to build your marquee to completion in good time. (ie tues/wed/thurs for a Saturday function). If we are catering we usually lay tables on a Friday morning. Smaller marquees (up to 100 guests) can be built in one day. Larger or more complex structures usually take two to five days.

  • What comes as standard in a Bakerwood Catering Quotation?

Our quotations are split separately into Catering or Marquee. Our catering quotes are itemised and obviously include your food, but also include crockery, cutlery, glasses, linen, ovens, refrigeration and staffing. Although our price does not include beverages we are happy to serve your drinks and do not charge corkage. All equipment provided is owned by ourselves.

  • What comes as standard in a Bakerwood Marquee Quotation?

Even our standard marquees are well equipped. A typical marquee would be built on a slightly raised level sub structure floor and includes features such as entrance way, high peak roofs, tables chairs, integral catering area, bay window end, backlit LED bar unit, comprehensive electrical distribution, lighting including LED uplights, chandeliers or pinspots. We offer a choice of linings, window style and dance floors and includes new carpet (colour of your choice).

  • What extras might I require within my Marquee?

Not much really, your marquee already looks very good. But you might want sofas, or poser tables or perhaps our signature white starcloth ceiling. See our extras list for further details.

  • What “Ancillary” services do Bakerwood provide?

Although we class ourselves as a “one stop shop”, we do not provide toilets or generators. We only deal with reliable suppliers and more often than not coordinate the delivery and installation of these items.

  • What sizes of marquee structure are available from Bakerwood?

We offer a variety of spans from 1.5m; 3m; 6m; 10m. Larger functions can have a combination of structures joined together giving a more intimate atmosphere allowing different areas to be cordoned off and revealed as the function progresses.

  • Can I expand or reduce the size of the Marquee if my needs change?

Yes, we only need to know final numbers the week before, up to that point you can reduce or increase your number of guests which may impact either way on the size of your marquee.

  • Do I need an event planner?

No not really, whilst we’ve nothing against event planners! Without you even realising, we are co-ordinating a large part of your event already!

  • I would like the Marquee but not the Catering, is that OK?

Yes of course, we cannot physically cater in every marquee we build. You can choose your own caterer.
